767,350. Cycle steering heads. RATTRAY & CO., Ltd., D. and SMITH, J. L. July 5, 1955 [Oct. 7, 1954], No. 28887/54. Class 136(3). [Also in Group XXV] In a steering head assembly for a cycle or for an invalid carriage, including a fork stem 1 screw-threaded at la externally for part of its length, a race member 2 threaded on to the upper end portion of the fork stem, and a lock nut 3 threaded on to the upper end portion of the fork stem above the race member, the end portion 7 of the lock nut 3 adjacent to the race member is shaped internally to mate with an internally screw-threaded tubular extension 6 integral with the end portion of the race member remote from the raceway. The tubular extension 6 is tapered externally and the end portion of the lock nut 3 adjacent to the extension 6 is coned internally at 7 to mate with the tapered extension. Radial slots 8 are formed in the extension 6. The peripheries of the lock nut 3 and of the race member 2 may be polygonal or may be formed with notches for engagement by an operating tool.
