Abstract

6-Chloropurine and 2-amino-6-chloropurine are prepared by treating 6-mercaptopurine and 2-amino-6-mercaptopurine respectively with chlorine. Conveniently, chlorine gas is passed through a solution or suspension of the mercapto compound in a suitable solvent, e.g. absolute ethanol, below 35 DEG C. In the examples 6-chloropurine hydrochloride and 2-amino-6-chloropurine are prepared. Specification 713,286 is referred to.
