Abstract

6-Halopenicillanic acids are prepared by contacting 6-aminopenicillanic acid with sodium nitrite in the presence of halogen ions in N HCl or 2.5N H2SO4 at a temperature of 0 DEG C. to 2 DEG C. Examples describe the production of 6-chloro-and 6-bromo-penicillanic acid and their dibenzylethylenediamine salts.
