Abstract
A conductor element, negative with respect to copper, for use in thermocouples in conjunction with another element such as stainless steel, is formed of an alloy containing an Se - Te constituent and the balance Pb, the limits of the ranges of amounts of the Se - Te constituent varying linearly in per cent by weight with the atomic proportion of Se, being 35.0 - 38.05 per cent when the constituent contains only a trace of Se and 25.0-27.55 when the constituent contains only a trace of Te, the metallic impurities in the element not exceeding 0.01 per cent. The element may be associated with a contact electrode of iron or iron alloy, such as an a-stabilized alloy containing 2.7 - 7.0 per cent Mo. The electrode and element may be united by bonding or by casting the element in contact with the electrode. Specification 765,884 is referred to.
