Abstract
766,789. Photo-electric pyrometer. CAMBRIDGE INSTRUMENT CO., Ltd., and CLARKE, R. H. Jan. 15, 1954 [Jan. 15, 1953], 1212/53. Class 40 (3). [Also in Group XX] A rotatable reflecting device is provided with a series of alternately reversed reflecting surfaces each of which reflect or deflect radiation from one source only and has a uniform cross-section. Preferably, radiation is deflected into a single common path so that the intensities of two sources 10 and 15 can be compared. As shown, an infra-red radiation pyrometer comprises a calibrated source 10, reflecting device 13, diaphragm 11, stop device 12, lead sulphide photoconductive cell 14 and diaphragm 17 and lens system 16 for unknown source 15. The reflecting surfaces are worked, plated and polished as a single continuous conical surface, on a divided member which is then bolted to a bush 23 with one half reversed as shown. The intensities due to the sources are equal when the alternating component of the cell output is at a minimum and it is necessary to minimize any alternation in the cell output due to the reflecting device either, during the period of reflection from one surface or the other or, during the change-over from one surface to the other. The disc is formed so that when one half is reversed it is still dynamically balanced and it can be reassembled in its original form for re-polishing.
