Abstract

b : b - bis - 4 - Hydroxyphenyl - propane is prepared by distilling off half acetone formed on decomposing cumene hydroperoxide with acid, condensing the remaining mixture by means of a condensation agent, and separating off the b : b - bis - 4 - hydroxyphenyl - propane. Specified condensation agents are gaseous hydrochloric acid and sulphuric acid. In examples the acid decomposition mixture from cumene hydroperoxide is distilled to give an acetone: phenol ratio of 1 : 2 and condensed with hydrogen chloride.
