Abstract
766,504. Electromedical appliances. SPLADIS, SOC. POUR L'APPLICATION D'INVENTIONS SCIENTIFIQUES. Jan. 24, 1955 [Jan. 29, 1954; Aug. 24, 1954; Oct. 11, 1954], No. 2081/55. Class 81(2) An electromedical apparatus employs a condenser which is initially charged and is discharged in the form of pulses through the patient, suitable means being interposed to prevent the patient receiving the whole charge at once. In one simple form of apparatus, Fig. 1, the main condenser C is charged through a rectifier unit p, resistance r and high speed changeover controls L', L<SP>2</SP>, L<SP>3</SP>, L', driven by cam E, cause charges to be taken therefrom by subsidiary condensers C<SP>1</SP>, C<SP>2</SP> and passed to the patient P as individual pulses, the magnitude of which follow the state of charge of condenser C. These pulses are normally of large magnitude at the commencement of the operation but fall to a lower, steady level as the initial charge is withdrawn and the discharge rate becomes equal to the charging rate. The cam-operated contacts may be replaced by a system of rotating brushes mounted in a casing having adjustable fixed contacts. These are so connected (see Figs. 2 and 5, not shown), that charges are again taken from a main condenser and passed to the patient. Fig. 6 (not shown) shows an electronic arrangement in which pulses are derived from an oscillator stage and these are employed to charge a main condenser at a controlled rate so at to obtain the desired form of output.
