Abstract
661,377. Pulse generating circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. April 19, 1948 [April 22, 1947], No. 10772/48. Class 40 (vi). In a pulse generator a capacitor is charged through a rectifier by a voltage derived from the anode circuit of a valve and is then discharged through a resistor and a biassed rectifier so that the grid voltage exhibits a pulse type variation, the capacitor discharging below the value of the biassing voltage applied to the rectifier. In the Figure, capacitor 5 is charged from the anode circuit via rectifier 4 and the transformer windings 2, 3 and subsequently discharges via resistor 6 and the rectifier 7 which is biassed by battery B3. Valve 1 conducts until the voltage across capacitor 5 falls below that of B3 when the grid voltage falls and due to the regenerative action of the transformer, windings 2, 9 drops almost at once to the value of battery B2, Fig. 2 (not shown). The grid voltage remains at this level until capacitor 5 charges to a voltage above that of battery B3 when the grid voltage rises and due to the regenerative action the valve conducts again. A pulse type variation of grid voltage and anode current is thus produced, the amplitude of the grid voltage pulse being determined by the voltage of batteries B3 and B2. A higher frequency signal applied to transformer 10 will be amplified by the valve during its conducting periods, the filters 12, 13 preventing amplified signal from being fed from the anode to the grid circuit via transformer windings 2, 9.
