Abstract

766,382. Multi-ply paper sacks. BOWATERS DEVELOPMENT & RESEARCH, Ltd. Aug. 9, 1955 [Aug. 27, 1954], No. 24990/54. Class 94(2). A multi-ply paper sack has at least one laminated ply 1, which comprises two sheets of paper of unequal strength bonded together, e.g. by a lamination 3 of bitumen, the stronger sheet 2 being wider than the other sheet 4 and being adhesively secured to itself at 6 and to the other sheet at 7 along the longitudinal seam of the sack. Fig. 1 is a transverse section through the longitudinal seam. The stronger sheet 2 is of wet strength paper and forms the outer surface of the sack. Two plies of single sheets of paper 8, 9 are interposed between the laminated ply 1 and a similar laminated ply 12, the weaker sheet 15 of plain kraft paper forming the inner surface of the sack. In a further embodiment the outermost ply is a single sheet of wet strength paper, the next a laminated ply with the stronger sheet on the inside, next a single sheet, and last a laminated ply with the weaker sheet on the inside.
