Abstract

1384577 Laminates REED INTERNATIONAL Ltd 5 Sept 1973 [6 Sept 1972] 41419/72 Heading B5N A sheet material suitable for use in packaging comprises two substantially coextensive layers of material adhered together along a plurality of spaced apart generally parallel bands 4, 5, are of the layers having cuts 6, 7 between and generally parallel to adjacent bands. The cuts may be continuous or constituted by lines of perforations. The layers of material, each of which may be a laminate of several sub-layers, may be of cardboard, paper, resin impregnated fibre glass mat, combinations of foil and cardboard or biaxially stretched polyethylene. Crease lines 8, 9, 10, 11 may be provided along each side of each adhesive band to facilitate lifting of flaps 15, 16 on opposite sides of each band which are brought together and secured by means of contact adhesive disposed along both sides of the cuts on the cut layer to provide a plurality of parallel ribs or tubes of similar cross-sections. The tubes or ribs may be sandwiched between two layers of ply by adding a plain liner to form a double faced board or two single faced boards may be secured together with the ribs of one board lying between adjacent ribs on the other board. The sheet material may comprise a third layer, the first and second and the second and third layers being joined together along a plurality of spaced apart generally parallel bands, the first and third layers being cut between and generally parallel to the respective adjacent bands. The material may be formed up to provide a layer of ribs disposed on either side of the second layer and sandwiched between two plain liners.
