[Also in Group XXIX] In a speed control system for a variable-pitch propeller electrical pulses of equal or unequal duration are applied by an electronic circuit to the windings 48, 49, Fig. 1, of armatures 40, 41 mounted on the spindle of a valve 30 which, together with a centrifugally-operated valve 10, controls the flow of pressure fluid to a servomotor 50 for adjusting the blades of the propeller. The electronic circuit comprises a power unit 70, Fig. 2, connected to a D.C. supply 75 and driven by an amplifier 71 controlled by a multivibrator 72, the output of which is modified by a motor circuit 73 to which power is supplied by a rectifier 74 connected with an alternator 76<SP>1</SP> driven by the turbine 62 which drives the propeller shaft. With the propeller speed constant, electrical pulses of equal duration are applied to the windings 48, 49, but during changes in speed the accelerations and decelerations of the turbine will result in pulses of unequal duration being applied. In order to synchronize the speed of the turbine with that of another, the electronic circuit includes a potentiometer P2 the arm of which is controlled by a reversible motor 96 connected to the output of an electronic synchronizer, such as that described in Specification 672,845.
