765,688. Portal frame building structural units. SMITH, N. H. G. Feb. 1, 1955 [Feb. 5, 1954], No. 3509/54. Class 20(2) A structural framework unit forming a column or beam member in a portal frame structure consists of pairs of flats 1 or 2 respectively, separated by sinuous interlaced bars 3, 4 welded to the flats and to each other at the crossings. The structural units may be interconnected by gussets 5 or 12 or by knee units 13 or apex units, Fig. 2, formed of flats 15, 16 and stiffeners 17, welded to the flats 2. Base units consist of plates 6 welded to flats 7 and to a base plate 8.
