Abstract

765,652. Agricultural implements. ALLISCHALMERS MANUFACTURING CO. July 26, 1954 [Aug. 13, 1953], No. 21792/54. Class 6(1). A hitch device for connecting an implement 33 having a hitch tongue 13 with a tractor provided with lift arms 4 comprises self-latching and manually releasable coupling means on the tractor co-operating with a coupling loop 44 on the tongue 13 and separable connecting means connecting the lift arms with the implement. As shown in Fig. 1, the loop 44 is engaged by a pivoted latch member 19 having a hook portion situated in a bell-shaped housing 12 mounted on a hitch yoke 2. The latch is so shaped that when the tractor is backed up to the implement the loop 44 is engaged by the latch and is released by means of a foot pedal 29 connected to the latch by a chain 32. The lift arms 4 are connected to lift links 39 mounted on the implement by means of sockets 41 which are fitted in the ends of the lift arms and retained in position by a withdrawable pin 42. In a modification means are provided for automatically separating the lift arms from the lift links when the loop 44 is disengaged from the latch 19. A box-shaped body 49 is mounted on each lift arm and is formed with a jaw 58 for receiving a cross pin 59 mounted on the end of the lift link. A spring-urged latch 64 is pivoted on the body 49 and holds the pin 59 in position and is provided with a pin 69 which abuts against the forked end of the lift link to raise the latch and release the lift arm and lift link when the two are in alignment which occurs when the loop 44 has been disengaged from the latch 19.
