Abstract

765,315. Stud-and-socket fastenings. DZUS, W. Feb. 11, 1955, No. 4163/55. Class 44. A fastening device comprises a stud member 10 which projects through an aperture in a first part 32 to be fastened and which on rotation engages a second part 15 to be fastened, the stud member being provided with a bearing plate 30 pressed by spring means 31 into contact with the first part, the first part being provided with projecting means 34 to engage the bearing plate to resist relative rotation. The stud member 10 comprises a shank portion 25 having threads 26 at its lower end and with an upper end which is non-circular in cross-section. A handle 29 is attached to the non-circular part of the shank by means of a screw 28 and this handle is provided with a pair of sockets 32<SP>1</SP> which contain coiled springs constituting the spring means 31. The bearing plate 30 which is engaged by the coiled springs is also mounted on the non- circular part of the shank. The threaded end of the shank engages an internally threaded receptacle 11 which is mounted underneath the part 15 which is plate. The receptacle 11 consists of a collar part 19 and a flange part 12, the collar part being mounted by means of a flange 18 in an elliptical opening 17 in the flange part 12 so that it may move transversely. The flange part is fixed by means of elongated holes and rivets 14 to the part 15 so that it may also move transversely but in a direction at right angles to the opening 17. The collar 19 can therefore move laterally in any direction. The collar is made radially expansible and contractable by means of longitudinal slots and a helical spring 21 on the outside of the collar. The means 34 consist of projections on part 32 which engage the side edges of the bearing plate on rotation of the bearing plate. To facilitate the intended rotation of the stud member, recesses (not shown) are provided in the lower surface of the bearing plate adjacent the side edges and located so as to engage with the projections 34. A stud member with fastening means other than a screw-thread may be provided.
