Abstract
765,145. Centrifugal pumps; radial-flow turbines. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON. Feb. 15, 1955 [Feb. 16, 1954], No. 4443/55. Classes 110 (1) and 110 (3). In a radial-flow pump, compressor or turbine comprising a double-walled casing forming at least one annular passage surrounding the stationary interstage deflecting parts of at least two stages, the annular passage communicating through holes with the channels bounded by the deflecting parts, the holes are formed, after manufacture of the casing, to suit the requirements of the individual machine. The casing 5 of the five-stage suction pump shown has two annular passages 8, 9 separated by a transverse partition 10 and communicating with interstage connections 2, 3 respectively. In this instance, holes 11a, 11b are formed, after manufacture of the casing, in the stationary interstage deflecting parts 7a, 7b respectively to connect the interstage channels 12a, 12b with the respective connections 2, 3. Thin areas may be provided in all of the deflecting parts 7, 7a, 7b, 7c, to facilitate the forming of the required holes by punching out or boring through the appropriate thin areas.
