Abstract
765,064. Bending glass sheets. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. Jan. 11, 1955 [Feb. 1, 1954], No. 816/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 56 Glass sheets are bent by being supported on a generally convex-shaped mould having its convex face directed upwardly, the mould being conveyed through a furnace having several stages of heating. In the first or pre-heating stage the flat sheets are supported on the mould only at their mid-portions and the heating is directed downwardly upon them and is of such degree that the end portions just begin to deflect towards the mould. The sheets then pass to the first bending stage proper and in this stage additional heat is supplied and is directed in an inclined path more towards the ends of the sheets; in a subsequent bending stage or stages the bending is completed by directing additional heat only toward the ends. In the final stage of the furnace the bent sheets are progressively cooled and annealed. Specification 763,705 is referred to.
