Abstract

691,468. Bending glass sheets. LIBBEYOWENS-FORD GLASS CO. April 14, 1951, No. 8725/51. Class 56. Relates to a method of and apparatus for bending selected portions of glass sheets while leaving other portions substantially unbent, particularly curved windscreens of vehicles. The plane sheets 3 are mounted on formers 2 having moulding portions of the desired curvature and advanced through an oven bearing heaters 19, 20 and additional radiant heaters 38 all arranged to provide parallel regions of different temperatures extending generally along the path of the moulds, the portions of the sheets to be bent being in the hotter region of the oven. Electric means are provided to stop the conveyers 4 if 'the moulds deviate substantially from a straight path.
