Abstract
A method of tempering glass sheets comprising: moving the glass sheets along a displacement path while said sheets are supported, at least partially, by a support gas, from a heating zone to a quenching zone through an entrance thereto, and direct in said quenching zone a plurality of gas streams towards the path of movement of said sheets of glass from above and from below said travel path, said currents being at a temperature and a pressure sufficient to cool said glass sheets and at least partially support said glass sheets during the movement thereof through said tempering zone; whose improvement comprises directing said currents in an inlet portion of said quenching zone outwardly from said heating zone.
