764,979. Stopping spinning &c. machines on completion of set. BORAS WAFVERI AKTIEBOLAG. Oct. 8, 1954 [Oct. 8, 1953], No. 29038/54. Class 120 (2). Lowering of ring rails on completion of set in spinning or twisting machines is initiated by operation of a valve so that air is delivered to one side of a cylinder provided with a double-acting piston that is coupled to the builder mechanism. When applied to a spinning machine in which the ring rail 1 is heavier than the counter-weights 5, Fig. 8, a switch is tripped by an adjustable lug 24 on a control rod 20 pivoted to a builder chain arm 7. The switch operated by the lug 24 causes a - lever 27 on a pneumatic valve 26 to be released, whereupon air enters the right-hand side of a cylinder 29 to actuate a piston rod 42, an arm 35 and a chain plate 11 to lower the rail 1. Movement of the piston rod 42 also actuates a circuit breaker 45 to stop the machine driving motor M before the rail 1 reaches its lowest position. It may be necessary with high speed machines to apply a braking force to the main driving shaft 15 and for this purpose a friction brake is applied to a drum mounted on the shaft by pneumatic means actuated from the valve 26. In a spinning machine having a ring rail lighter than its counterweights, a plate 64, Fig. 12, is provided with circumferential teeth that are numbered on the face of the plate which is rotated by a pawl 66 oscillated by a rod 69 that follows a cam 71 fixed on the heart cam-shaft of the builder motion. When a pin 77 fixed to the disc 64 strikes a lever 79, a valve 82 is operated to lower the spindle rail and stop the driving motor.
