Abstract

764,714. Twisting and doubling yarns. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd. July 5, 1955 [July 28, 1954], No. 22006/54. Class 120 (2). Apparatus for plying two yarns comprises two supports for let-off packages, feed rolls associated with each package and means for rotating a constant length of yarn from one package about the other package. Two hollow spindles 1, 2 are co-axially mounted in bearings 3 and are driven by chains 4 from a motor 5. Each spindle drives a feed roll unit 7, 9 through worm gearing 6, 8. Yarn from a package 11 is fed into the spindle 1 by rolls 7 and passes through a radial passage 12 to a rotatable guide tube 14 carried by supports 13 on the spindles 1, 2. From the tube 14, the yarn enters spindle 2 through a radial passage 12 and is twisted with a yarn drawn from a bobbin 18 by feed rolls 9. The twisted yarns are wound onto a take-up bobbin 19 driven from a motor 20 through a slipping clutch 21. Supply bobbin 18 is carried on a framework 15 prevented from rotating by magnetic or other means. If desired, the feed rolls may be driven by independent synchronous alternating current motors.
