[Also in Group XXI] In a coal - mining apparatus one run of a flexible belt conveyer extending along a face in a mine is so slidably coupled with a mining machine that it is maintained against a face by the pressure set up on the cutting means of the machine by the coal being broken away from the seam as the machine is advanced, that the machine on advancing moves the belt transversely of its length towards the face. In one embodiment the machine is a plough and the edge of the flat flexible conveyer belt e adjacent the plough is formed with a flange d, which slides through a complementary recess c formed in the body a of the plough, the shape of the flange and recess being such that disengagement cannot be effected by movement transverse of the. axis of the recess. In a second embodiment a sheet metal structure projects from the body of the plough, the upwardly facing concave surface of the structure being directed towards the plough. No flange is formed on the belt.
