764,462. Shedding motions for carpet looms. LANSDOWNE STEEL & IRON CO. Jan. 27, 1955, No. 2447/55. Class 142 (2). Each heald frame 25 carries several vertical racks 30 engaged by pinions 34. All the pinions for one frame also engage a horizontal rack 35 reciprocated by levers 44-46 rocked by shedding cams 38-40. The cam 38 controls the stuffer warps and cams 39, 40 control the chain warps. The front heddle frame is not moved as high as the rear frame This is accomplished by having less teeth on the pinion operating the front heddle. The racks slide on blocks of oil impregnated maple wood. In a second embodiment (Fig. 12), as applied to a narrow carpet loom, the horizontal rack is replaced by two toothed quadrants 71 oscillated by connecting rods 73, shedding levers 72, and shedding cams mounted on the bottom shaft The quadrants engage pinions 75 on the ends of horizontal shafts 76, 80. The shaft 80 carries a pinion 75 adjacent each end engaging racks 69 on the heald frame controlling the stuffer warps. The shaft 76 has two pinions adjacent each end engaging racks 69a 69b, carried by the heald frames controlling the chain warps so that these frames are moved simultaneously in opposite directions.
