Abstract

764,244. Printing-telegraph transmitters. CREED & CO., Ltd. Jan. 26, 1955, No. 2350/55. Class 40 (3). A telegraph transmitter is driven by its motor through a clutch which is engaged under control of contacts operated centrifugally by the motor when it attains a predetermined operating speed. Contacts 1 of operated switch MMS close a circuit for the motor M which opens contacts 2 when it attains its working speed. When contacts 2 open capacitor C charges and current is applied via contacts 1a and rectifier bridge 4, 5, 6, 7 to the winding 8 of a relay R/4 which closes at contact r3 an operating circuit through resistor 3 for the motor M, and at contact r2 prepares a circuit for the clutchrelease magnet CRM which is energized when contacts 12 of the switch MLS are closed and allows the clutch to connect the transmitter to the motor. Contact r2 also closes a holding R circuit for relay - through its winding 9. 4 Contacts r4 short-circuit the contacts of an auxiliary transmitter which has alternative use of the transmission channel, and closure of contacts 12a by accidental operation of the switch MLS does not short-circuit the transmission circuit of the auxiliary transmitter during its operation. When transmission is to be terminated, switches MMS and MLS are opened, but rectifier 11 makes relay R/4 slow to release so that the driving circuit for the motor M is temporarily maintained over contacts r1, R r3. When relay - releases, magnet CRM is 4 de-energized immediately since rectifier 10 neutralizes the retarding action of the rectifier 11 in respect of the magnet, and the transmitter is brought to rest. The transmitter is operated by a perforated tape or keyboard. Contacts 13 which are opened when the tape is taut release magnet CRM to stop the transmitter.
