740,216. Telegraph exchange systems. CREED & CO., Ltd. Feb. 26, 1954 [March 7, 1953], No. 5733/54. Class 40 (3). In a telegraph system comprising subscriber equipment including a motor and a manuallyoperated perforating device, operable when the telegraph line is disconnected, the speed of the motor is increased above that employed during the normal printing operation when the device is to be operated. The motor 1 with serieswound windings 2, 3 is maintained at the appropriate speed during normal operation by a governor-controlled contact 4 which is opened when the speed rises above normal to switch in a resistance 5. When the perforating apparatus is to be taken into use a contact 6, closed by a supervisory relay, short-circuits the control by contact 4 and resistance 5 so that the speed of the motor increases. If the increased speed is to be limited, a coarse regulator device opens a contact 7 to introduce a resistance 8 into the motor supply circuit. When contact 6 is opened for the resumption of the normal printing operation, the resistance 5 is effective to reduce the speed of the motor until it again comes under the joint control of the contact 4 and the resistance 5.
