Abstract
779,447. Type-making machines. TELETYPESETTER CORPORATION. March 6, 1956 [June 30, 1955], No. 6996/56. Class 100(3) Strip-perforating machines. In a keyboard-operated tape-perforating apparatus in which selected punches of a tape-perforating device for producing code combinations of perforations in a second tape such as may be used for automatically controlling the operation of a type linecasting and composing machine are actuated by means of a cam through a clutch comprising a driving member 85 which is controlled by a blocking lever 16 as described in Specification 778,570, the lever 16 is held in engagement with the member 85 by a spring 18, and the clutch tripoff member 36 when actuated by any of the keys 14 is adapted to close a contact for energizing an electromagnet 19 to release the member 85, the lever 16 serving as the armature of the magnet. A D.C. or rectified A.C. source of current charges a capacitor 27. When the trip-off member 36, which is a universal bar, closes contacts 32, 31, the capacitor 27 charges a capacitor 34 through the electromagnet 19, thereby energizing the latter until the capacitors 27, 34 approach equilibrium when the current becomes insufficient and the lever 16 is released. On release of the member 36, the contacts 32, 31 are opened and contacts 32, 33 closed to discharge the capacitor 34 through a resistor 28. The released lever 16 then engages the other of two extensions 82, 83 of the member 85 to stop the latter. If a repeat key 38 is depressed, it acts after the member 36 is actuated by a key to establish a holding circuit for the magnet 19 through a resistor 39, the current being insufficient to actuate the lever 16 prior to the closing of the contacts 32, 31. The device may be actuated by remote control as indicated in interrupted lines, the capacitor 34 and resistor 28 being replaced by a capacitor 62 and resistor 63 and the contacts 31, 32, 33 by a contact assembly 61 including a remote control lever 64. Specification 420,084 also is referred to.
