Abstract

763,294. Rainproof coated fabrics; laminated fabrics. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. July 27, 1954 [Oct. 15, 1953], No. 21895/54. Class 140. An air-permeable rainproof fabric comprises an inner woven uncoated fabric 11 and an outer woven fabric 12 coated with a waterproof coating 15, such as rubber, except over those parts adjacent the parallel spaced-apart lines 20 where the fabrics are joined. The inner fabric has lesser dimensions between said spacedapart lines than those of the outer fabric, thus the whole fabric is formed into a looped arrangement whereby the coated portions of the outer fabric overlie its uncoated portions. This loop arrangement may be achieved by having yarns between the spaced-apart lines in one fabric with greater shrinking power than in the other. The fabrics may be joined by tying threads 13 or preferably may be woven as a double fabric. The coating is carried out prior to shrinking with mashing tapes over the portions which are to remain uncoated.
