762,740. Pliers. JONSSON, J. M. Nov. 19, 1954 [March 22, 1954], No. 33615/54. Class 61 [Also in Group XIV], In pliers or other hand tools comprising pivoted arms movable together or apart for operating the tool, the arms are urged apart by a leaf spring extending from one arm to a position at a greater distance from the pivot on the other arm, 'the end portions of the spring curving away in opposite directions so that approach of the arms exerts pressure through the spring extremities to accentuate the said curving As shown, a pair of pliers for setting the teeth of a saw blade comprises arms 1, 2 pivoted at 8, an S-shaped leaf spring 3 being interposed therebetween. The end 5 of the spring engages in a recess 6 on the inside of the arm 2 and is free to move slightly therein, the other end portion 4 being positively located in a recess 7 on the inside of the arm 1. When the arms are pressed together the upper spring extremity moves along an arcuate path a, having as its centre of curvature the pivot 8, up to a line b joining the pivot 8 to the lower extremity of the spring. The attachments for the end portions of the arms may be interchanged relatively to the arms or both end portions 4, 5 may be positively secured to the respective arms 1, 2.
