Abstract

A composition which is readily converted to an adhesive by mixing with water, comprises a dry, powdered urea-or thiourea-aldehyde condensation product in the water-soluble stage in admixture with dry, finely divided aluminium sulphate as hardening catalyst. The percentage of catalyst is preferably 0.25 to 10 per cent by weight of the resin. The composition may also contain a melamine-aldehyde resin and organic and inorganic fillers, e.g. china clay, and wood flour, and very small amounts of mineral oil. The urea condensate may be obtained in the dry, powdered state by spray-drying an aqueous solution thereof. The aldehyde may be formaldehyde, paraformaldehyde or acetaldehyde.
