Abstract

761,226. Cartons; packages. MURRAY, A. J. Dec. 31, 1954, No. 37856/54. Classes 18 and 94(1). A carrier, package or carton for cans &c., is produced from a single strip of material folded round the contents and forming side walls, base and top, slits extending into the side walls and having their ends resting on fold lines between at least the base and side walls to form locating apertures for beads on the ends of the cans. In one embodiment, Figs. 1, 3, for containing necked cans 6 in two rows, slits 29-32 are formed in folds 18, 19, 26, 27 between the sides 14, 15, partition and handle forming elements 20, 21 and base portions 16, 17 to give openings through which bottom beads 28 project. In a similar embodiment, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown) for cans having beads at both ends, slits are also arranged adjacent the folds between the top and sides. In further forms, Figs. 7, 8 (not shown), the handle is omitted and one or both ends of the strip form a separating partition between the rows extending only part of the carton height.
