760,286. Forging. VEB LEUNA-WERKE W. ULBRICHT. Aug. 20, 1954, No. 24304/54. Class 83 (4). A press for forging ring-like objects, such as tyres, flanges or pipe bases, has means for turning the ring 1 between working strokes comprising a clamp 7 suspended from the crosshead 4 and adapted to grip the ring and turn it on the upstroke of the crosshead and to slide down the ring periphery or the forging stroke. The ring is supported on a mandrel 2 carried by a bracket 3. The clamp consists of a cross-bar 8 having pin and slot connections with notched side bars 7 suspended by chains 6 or other flexible members from hangers 5 on the crosshead. The chains form an angle with the vertical such that as they are pulled the side bars close on to sides of the ring. Means may be provided for allowing the turning movement to be varied.
