Abstract

760,119. Supports for shuttering for casting concrete structures. FORMWORK PATENTS, Ltd. Aug. 24, 1954 [Aug. 25, 1953], No. 23476/53. Class 20(2) A soldier 11, Fig. 1 for the support of shuttering for casting concrete walls comprises parallel flanges 12, 13 at least one of which has a series of apertures 26 along it whereby steel shuttering may be secured to it, and is combined with a detachable extension piece 25 Fig. 4 at one of or each of its' ends to enable it to be adapted to various spans for use as a joist for the support of shuttering for casting concrete floors. The flanges 12, 13, consisting of channel members, are connected by vertical spacing members 14, 15, 16, 17 and diagonal braces 10, 18, 19 which act as stiffeners to withstand the force of shutter fixing means. The extension piece 25, which is of rolled steel section, is telescopically received by shaped notches 20 Fig. 3 in the end pair of spacing members 14, 15. A temporary wall hook 30 is provided with a pair of angle members 38 spaced to lie against opposite faces of the web 41 of the extension piece 25 and a transverse pin 40 spanning the members 38 is engagable in key shaped slots 28, 29 in the web 41. A screwed thrust member 36 in a flange 34 of the hook 30 is operable upon the extension piece 25 to urge the joist upwardly so that the pin 40 engages the lower end of the slot 28 to lock the hook 30 solidly to the extension piece. When the cast floor is set, the joist may be lowered by unscrewing the thrust member 36. When an extension piece 25 is provided at only one end of the joist, the other end may have a wall hook 42 bolted to the member 17. The extension piece 25 can be locked in the soldier by a set screw carried' by a nut 50 welded to the member 14. Specification 603,084 is referred to.
