Abstract

759,980. Screw clamps for lifting articles. REFROE & SONS, Inc., J.C. Sept. 9, 1954 [April 20, 1954], No. 26102/54. Class 78(4). A screw clamp for lifting beams and plates is secured to the hoisting hook by means of a swivel 38. As illustrated, the swivel 38 is carried on a plain portion 26 of the screw 24 and is located between a head 32 formed with holes 34 for the reception of a tommybar and a nut 28 providedwith a locking screw 30. A shackle 44 for attachment to the lifting hook passes through a hole 42 in the swivel 38. The fixed jaw 46 is rectangular in shape and takes into a corresponding recess 50 in the clamp body 12, 16, being further located by a circular projection 75 taking into a corresponding recess. When a screw 52 securing the fixed jaw 46 has been loosened, the jaw may be lifted and turned through a right angle to alter the direction of load-engaging ribs with which it is formed. The screw jaw 22 is formed with a circular loadengaging surface 36.
