[Also in Group XX] Part of the profile of an elongated object, such as a turbine blade, on a chosen cross-sectional plane oblique to the axis thereof, is examined by illuminating the object around said part profile, viewing the object in a direction substantially normal to said oblique plane and comparing the part profile as viewed with a representation of the correct profile. The viewing may be effected by projection using apparatus as described in the parent Specification, in which there is a discontinuity of illumination at the section plane, or by projection with apparatus in which only the section plane is illuminated.
