Abstract
759,773. Variable-speed gearing. RENNERFELT, S. B. Sept. 3, 1953. No. 24379/53. Class 80(2) In variable-speed friction gearing with tiltable rollers 25 engaging toric races in driving and driven discs 9, 10, the driven disc 10 is coupled to the output shaft 3 through a cam-and-ball device 11, 13, 14 so that axial pressure is applied to disc 10 dependent on the load, and a considerable additional axial pressure is applied directly to disc 10 by springs 21. The cam surfaces are formed on the ends of sleeves 11, 13, of which sleeve 13 is keyed on shaft 3 and abuts through a member 15 and the inner race of a ball bearing 16 against a nut 17 on shaft 3, while sleeve 11 is loose on shaft 3, rotates with disc 10 and abuts against the latter through spring washers 18. The springs 21 are arranged between disc 10 and a member 22 abutting against member 15 through a thrust bearing 23. Disc 9 rotates with a sleeve 7 geared to input shaft 4 and abuts against the sleeve 7 through spring washers 20, the sleeve 7 in turn abutting against a collar on shaft 3 through a thrust bearing 19. In order to allow for inequalities in the cam surfaces, sleeve 11 may have radial freedom by being Oldhamcoupled to disc 10 (Fig. 3, not shown) or by having play on shaft 3 and a ball bearing 29, Fig. 5, on the shaft at the remote end. Specification 759,820 is referred to.
