Abstract
759,691. Girders for supporting ceiling shuttering. HINZE, O. Nov. 30, 1950 [Oct. 1, 1948], No. 29342/50. Class 20(2). Falsework for ceilings &c. supported on a number of girder sections 2, Fig. 2, having top members abutting by their end faces at 5 and bottom members connected by adjustable means such as turnbuckles 6, so that the falsework can be cambered upward to compensate for the weight of the concrete or allowed to sag for dismantling. The turnbuckles are detachable by means of pins to allow dismantling and the abutting top members may be connected by clamps for ease of transport when not dismantled. Each girder section comprises a U-section top member 2, Fig. 7, connected to the bottom tubular member 3 by zig-zag tubing 4. A number of girders may be connected together by cross ties connected to vertical plates 22. The end sections rest by means of tongues on the walls of the structure, being built or as shown in Fig. 2, a triangular bracework 24, 26 connected to the end of the girder by a butt joint 5 and a turnbuckle 6 carries by means of its upper member 24 and a pin and slot connection a slidably adjustable strip to rest on the wall as described in Specification 759,712. An alternative girder comprises a top member formed by two angle irons 2, Fig. 8 between which is welded a single zig-zag tubing 4. A further modified girder comprises an angle iron top member 29, Fig. 13 connected to a tubular bottom chord 3 by a web plate 30 with angle iron reinforcements 31. These girders abut by end members 31<SP>1</SP> and the turnbuckles are connected to sockets 3a. The girder shown in Fig. 13 is an end girder having a support 32 for engagement with a wall. Figs. 14 and 15 (not shown), show the falsework for a ceiling having a main beam and subsidiary cross beams in which.girders as shown in Fig. 13 are used to encase the sides of the main beams.
