Abstract
621,387. Building structures; joist floors; building units. MENDELSSOHN, H. E., and NOVVAK, V. F. April 3, 1946, No. 10360. [Classes 20(i), 20(ii), 20(iv) and 87(i)] A building construction framework includes pairs of semi-arch members 10 which carry joists 32 and are connected by tie-rods 33 supporting the walls and roof. Each semi-arch member 10 consists of two portions 10A and 10B bent at their upper and lower ends to form scrolls 14, 11. Two members 10 can be united by a hinge pin through one each of their scrolls 14 and folded flat for transport, and for erection the members 10 are swung apart to form a complete arch, at which the other two scrolls 14 come into alignment and a second hinge pin is inserted. The feet of the arches are received in channels 9 secured to slabs 7, 8 and a bolt 12 is passed through holes in the flanges of the channel and through one of the scrolls 11. The arch is then pulled upright and held by passing a second bolt 12 through the channel and the other scroll 11. A joist 32 comprises two channels with nailing strips 29, 30 between them, their webs each having a dovetail channel 28. The channels 28 lie opposite, so that two joists can be joined end to end by a common block of double dove-tail section, or, if a transverse beam passes between the end of two such joists, by fixing dove-tail members to a bracket which passes through a slot in the transverse member. Dovetail blocks 25 on the members 10 receive the joists. The tie rods 33 have their ends cranked to enter eyes located in the member 10. Prefabricated wall sections are provided with L- shaped notches 8 so that they hook on the tie rods and are supported thereby. The tie rods also similarly support prefabricated roof sections shaped to imitate tiles. Floor boards 51 are laid upon, and a ceiling 52 is supported from adjacent joists 32, and there is a supporting member between the floor and ceiling in the form of a concave sheet 53 with its edges bent to form opposite C-section portions 54, 55.
