Abstract

759,117. Endless conveyers. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Oct. 7, 1954 [Oct. 10, 1953], No. 28922/54. Class 78 (1). In an endless conveyer in which elongated objects having a longitudinal ferromagnetic core are conveyed in a vertical position, each object is suspended at one end from a magnet on the conveyer in such a manner that at the other end of the object no magnetic potential difference exists between this object and an adjacent one suspended from the conveyer or any part of the conveyer. The Figures show an application in which welding rods are dried by being conveyed by an endless chain 5 through a furnace comprising iron walls 1, 2 heated by steam passing through spacers 3, 4. The chain is guided by rollers 22 engaging rails 13 and consists of links 14 secured in pairs by metal plates 15 to which are attached magnetic suspension devices. These latter each comprise a permanent magnet 16 with pole shoes 17, 18 from which a welding rod 20 is suspended by its uncoated upper end which bridges the shoes. The magnets may be electromagnets.
