Abstract

1371832 Endless conveyers PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 27 Jan 1972 [30 Jan 1971] 3857/72 Heading B8A An overhead conveyer for transporting ferromagnetic articles comprises a plurality of magnets each of which comprises an upper and a lower poleshoe, disposed-parallel to one another so that one limb of each poleshoe extends vertically and the horizontal limbs of the poleshoes extend towards one another at different levels, each magnet having a gap in the magnetic circuit between the ends of the horizontal limbs of the poleshoes smaller than the dimension of the horizontal contact face of the upper poleshoe transverse to the direction of transport of the magnet. Each magnet 17 comprising poleshoes 13, 15 is attached via tubular element 11 and screw 19 to a rib 9 of a chain link 3, the links forming an endless chain 1 supported by guide rollers 7 and guide tracks (not shown). A welding rod 21 carried by a magnet 17 may swing in the direction of the arrow A to a horizontal position while retaining contact with both poleshoe 15 and a magnetic extension of poleshoe 13 i.e. a soft iron intermediate member 23. In another embodiment the poleshoes are sufficiently closely spaced for such a member not to be necessary. Adjacent magnets are pivotally connected by a partly cylindrical recess on one magnet connecting with a semicircular cylindrical portion 27 on the next.
