Abstract

759,068. Ring spinning. LINEN INDUSTRY RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. March 1, 1955 [March 2, 1954], No. 6031/54. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). In wet spinning of yarns of flax &c. on ring frames one or more guide and cleaning rings are provided between the traveller ring and the thread, plate or eye for the purpose of keeping the ring and traveller free from surplus water, gum and other extraneous matter, the arrangement being such as to allow the yarn to balloon slightly and bear against the guide and cleaning ring or rings. In Fig. 1, the invention is applied to a type of ring spinning frame having a fixed ring rail. A single guide and cleaning ring 9 is interposed between the eye 3 in the thread plate 4 and the traveller ring 6 such that the distance Y is approximately equal to two-thirds of the distance X. In other embodiments two and three guide and cleaning rings are used and the invention is also shown as applied to a ring spinning frame of the type in which the spindle remains fixed and the traveller ring is reciprocated. Fig. 5 shows one way of supporting the ring 9 and shows means whereby the water and extraneous matter removed from the yarn can be drained into a suitable gutter 18. The surface of the ring may be formed in various ways to aid the discharge of the water and extraneous matter removed from the yarn. The ring may also be split or made in two parts to aid threading-up and in a further embodiment is in the form of a helix.
