Abstract

759,051. Diaphragm pumps. COLLINSON, S. Nov. 23, 1954 [Nov. 24, 1953], No. 32503/53. Class 102(1). A diaphragm pump for use with dairy equipment comprises casing parts 20, 23 between which is placed a diaphragm 21 ; the casing part 23 carries a frame 25 with a screw 24 to clamp the parts 20, 23 together. The casing part 23 contains a spring 35 fitted with abutments 41, 42, the abutment 41 pressing against the diaphragm 21 and the abutment 42 being adjusted by the screw 36 to determine the pressure applied to the diaphragm during the delivery stroke. The interior of casing part 23 is connected to a pulsator 38 which applies cyclically the vacuum produced by a pump 39. The casing part 21 has diametrically opposite openings 26, 27 fitted with an inlet valve 31 and a lighter outlet valve 32, each having stems that project from the openings so that they can be lifted to empty the pump and pipes during dismantling for cleaning. In a modification the diaphragm operates toggle mechanism to alternately connect the casing part 23 to vacuum and atmosphere and the casing parts are clamped by a spring clip.
