Abstract
20-70 parts of uncrushed silver sand, grains larger than 0.1 mm., 80-30 parts calcined alumina, particles mainly less than 0.01 mm. a binder and water are moulded and fired at a temperature below that at which chemical reaction between the components will proceed beyond the boundary surfaces of adjacent particles. Quartzite larger than 0.2 mm. may replace all or part of the sand. The alumina may be g -alumina alone or mixed with aluminium hydrate. Bentonite and sulphite lye are the binders.
