Abstract
A refractory composition consists of 40-70% of +65 Tyler mesh basic fused grain and the balance consisting of -28 mesh magnesia, chrome ore or mixtures thereof. The basic grain may be electrically fused magnesite, chrome ore, alumina or mixtures thereof. The mix may also contain 1-10% volatilized silica. Water and a temporary binder, e.g. waste lignin liquor, may be added to the mix before pressing and firing as bricks.
