Abstract
758,283. Making turnkeys for stop cocks. HOLDEN, G. P., and RAVENHOSE, Ltd. Feb. 17, 1955 [May 25, 1954], No. 15336/54. Class 83 (2). [Also in Group XXIII] A turnkey for hydrant or other valves which is of light metal or a light metal alloy has the valve engaging aperture or recess lined with metal or other material which is harder and more wear-resistant than the light metal or light metal alloy. As shown, a tapering hole 7 of square section is provided in the end piece 4. A sheet steel lining 8 is bent to fit closely against the walls of the hole 7 being secured by two projections 9 on each wall which fit into corresponding apertures 10 in the lining. A hole 6 in the end piece 3 provides for stowage of a tommy bar. In a modification a groove of enlarged diameter is provided at the inner end of the aperture, a part of the lining being expanded outwardly into engagement with the groove. In another modification the end of the turnkey is a casting which is shrunk on to the lining. In another modification the' end of turnkey is cast around the lining which forms the core of the mould.
