Abstract

632,281. Pirns. BRINDLE, T. Dec. 2, 1947, Nos. 31871/47 and 15379/48. [Class 120 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a method of making, repairing or reinforcing textile pirns, the pirn is prepared at or near the base to receive a metal base portion which is cast on while the pirn is supported in a die. The body B of the pirn usually of wood or cardboard is held between two halves A of a die, Fig. 1, and molten metal is forced in through a passage G around a core E which forms in the metal, a continuation of the bore F of the pirn. Before casting, the end of the body portion is prepared so that the base becomes fully interlocked therewith. In a modified form, Fig. 4, the cast portion comprises a ring K.
