Abstract

Isopropylamine salts of alkyl sulphuric acids having 8 to 22 carbon atoms, e.g. isopropylamine lauryl sulphate, are prepared by reacting the alkyl sulphuric acid with the amine, or a salt of the acid with a salt of the amine, e.g. hydrohalide, in an atmosphere of nitrogen at 0.5 atmospheres superpressure and pH about 7, the temperature being such that the acid remains in liquid form.ALSO:A cleansing composition for the human body, e.g. a hand- or hair-wash, contains the isopropylamine salt of one or more alkyl sulphuric acids having 8 to 22 carbon atoms, e.g. isopropylamine lauryl sulphate. The composition, which may take the form of cakes or a 10 to 25 per cent aqueous solution, is prepared by melting the isopropylamine salt in distilled water, with avoidance of the stirring-in of air, prior to the addition of glycerol, colouring matter, perfumes and thickeners.ALSO:A cleansing composition for the human body e.g. a hand- or hair-wash, contains the isopropylamine salt of one or more alkyl sulphuric acids having 8 to 22 carbon atoms e.g. isopropylamine lauryl sulphate.
