Abstract
<PICT:0757825/III/1> A batch of dry bauxite in an autoclave is treated by the introduction of caustic soda solution previously superheated to a temperature sufficient to supply all the heat necessary for the complete extraction of the alumina. Thus caustic soda is preheated in vessel 1, by steam through coils 3, and is transferred by conduit 6 to decomposition autoclave 7 containing dry bauxite introduced through supply pipe 8. The decomposition lye formed in the autoclave may be further treated, as in Specification 757,826, by forcing this lye, without any reduction of pressure in the autoclave, through pipe 9 into diluter 10, where it is mixed with stirred-out lyes from previous treatments or caustic soda washing lyes. The mixed lye is then passed through conduit 13 for further treatment.
