Class 110(3) A diffusing and direction-changing duct unit for fluid comprises an initial diffuser portion a arranged annularly around the axis of the unit with straight walls extending in the axial direction, a toroidal duct portion d connected directly or indirectly to the diffuser and disposed around the diffuser axis, the diffuser discharging into the toroidal duct substantially along a radius of the cross-section of the toroid, and a discharge pipe 9 extending from the toroidal duct transversely to the diffuser axis. As shown, the diffuser a receives the exhaust from a turbine 11 and is connected by a bend b, which curves through 180 degrees and which is substantially non-diffusing, to a second annular diffuser c which discharges into the toroidal duct. The diameter of the latter is at a minimum diametrically opposite the pipe 9, and progressively increases so as to render the toroidal duct substantially non-diffusing.
