Abstract
757,266. Flushing cisterns. BARLING, L. C. July 22, 1954, No. 21451/54. Class 26. A syphon pipe primed by upward pivotal movement of a flap 14 linked to an operating handle 16 comprises an inner vertical pipe 7, the upper part of which is engaged in an upward extension 6 of an outer part providing a chamber 1 in the form of a quadrant of a cylinder in which the flap moves and being wider than the external diameter of the pipe. The upper extension 6 is semi-cylindrical, and the whole outer part may be of asbestos cement or sheet metal supported wholly by the pipe 7. The flap 14 in its lowest position rests on the bottom of the cistern 4; alternatively, it may rest on an apertured plate forming the bottom of the chamber 1, in which case the walls of the chamber are apertured just above the flap. A counterweight may be used to return the flap to its initial position.
