Abstract

756,990. Roller conveyers. KERR & CO. (MANCHESTER), Ltd., J. April 4, 1955 [April 2, 1954], No. 9674/54. Class 78 (1). The side members 10 of a section of conveyer are made of extruded, or drawn, metal of hollow cross-section and have rounded tops and bottoms to facilitate the insertion of the rollers. Pairs of aligned bores 15 are provided in each member to receive spigots 15a having formed in their heads seatings for balls 19 protruding from the ends of the rollers 20. Each ball is held in position by an outer pressing 20a, which forms the flanged end of the roller, an intermediate pressing 25 through which the ball passes, and a pair of cup-shaped inner pressings 21, 22 containing a coil spring 24 and slidably connected by a peg 23. A ball race 27 is inserted between the pressings 22, 25. One half of a rigid, preferably solid, connecting member 16, Fig. 7, is placed in the ends of adjacent sections 10 and secured by a member 17, the head of which is recessed to receive a roller 19. Each section is supported by pairs of members 28, Fig. 1, having angled extensions 29, Fig. 2, at their upper ends. These extensions carry pegs which enter bores 12 in the side members. Each member 28 is connected with its opposite member by rods 30. Stiffeners 31 are detachably connected to the members 28, 10. The members 28 may be provided with pivoted non-skid rubber feet 32 or castors. In a modification for carrying heavy loads, Fig. 4, each roller has short axles 35 held by lock nuts 36 in its end and mounted in ball bearings 34 held in a sleeve 34a mounted in the side member.
