In a sheet metal cabinet of the type having a plurality of sliding drawers 7 which may be locked when closed by a locking device actuated from a barrel type plunger lock which automatically holds the locking device in the locked position when the plunger lock is pushed home manually against a spring, the locking device comprises an elongated member 9 reciprocable in a vertical direction and a portion of which has a plurality of spaced openings 17A each shaped to provide a tongue 17, each tongue being adapted to enter into engagement with a socket member 18 projecting from the back of each drawer. The elongated member 9 is of channel shape and is mounted between a pair of parallel guides 10A fixed to the inside back 2 of the cabinet and it is urged to unlocking position by a coiled spring 16 which surrounds a post 16A upstanding from the bottom 4 of the cabinet and which bears against a transverse abutment plate 9A fixed in the member 9 near its lower end. The member 9 is urged to locking position by a bar 11 which is mounted in the top 3 of the cabinet and which is connected to the body part 5 of the barrel lock. When the bar 11 is moved rearwardly by pressing on the body part 5 of the barrel lock an inclined edge 13 at its rear end engages a roller 14 mounted on a shaft 15 which is welded to the member 9. Each socket member is of U-shape and its rear portion 18A is inclined so that if the drawer is not fully home when the tongue 17 engages its socket member 18 it is pulled home. The socket members 18 enter the openings 17A to be engaged by the tongues, the portion of the elongated member having the openings 17A being the base of the channel.
